Creating Vertical Content
for Maximum Reach

Portrait Video Content Is The New Thing Online

Sometimes you should use Vertical Video for your business. Sometimes. I’m definitely not jumping off the Landscape Bandwagon, but there are opportunities for you to adopt this new format and experiment with it in your marketing. Let’s talk about when that should be.

Live Video Content

First of all, Live videos. With the Periscope Video app being launched in 2015, a lot of the content was Vertical. Then with Facebook rolling out their Live service for everyone in 2016, Snapchat encouraging Vertical Video Captures, and Instagram and Facebook encouraging Vertical content in their respective Stories, it has started to become a natural look to some users.

If my customer base was younger, I would be adopting some Vertical content in my Marketing, as studies have shown that millennials despise turning their phone. Meaning they watch their content vertically on mobile devices. Plus, if I know that my fans are sitting on Instagram and Snapchat, I’m going to create content for that platform, so I would definitely be putting some thought into that.

Portrait Video Is Perfect for Mobile Viewing

Vertical Video is starting to use the most real estate on a users mobile device. In February, 2017, Facebook started to display a larger portion of each vertical video in the News Feed for mobile devices. This means they aren’t getting distracted by other pieces of content, and may stay watching your content even longer.

Find What Works

So, what is the take away about all of this? Start experimenting with your content to see what your audience responds to. Do market research into your target audience, see what they like and how they interact with your Landscape, Vertical and Square content on both Desktop and Mobile devices. Find what works for your business and your fans.
